If you think about it, the main reason Marathon isn't doing well is because ARC Raiders is still popular and they are both the same genre. Anyone interested in picking up a new Extraction Shooter is already playing ARC.

EVERY AAA FPS game "another Concord". It was unique in the size of its absolute failure.

@???

I totally understand what you're saying. People are DESPERATE for another Concord to use as their punching bag. First it was Concord, then Highguard, now Marathon and Fairgames.

I liked shitting on Concord as much as the next guy, but it kinda deserved it. We can't call (CONT'D)

Oh boy, yet another PVE extraction game with forced PVP? What an original concept! It'd be neat if they made a game like this that didn't cater exclusively to rats.

Had to look it up.
Only 2 of the 9 gaming channels I follow reviewed Marathon, and those channels gave it "Good Game Play, but not overly impressive" reviews.

I don't follow much of gaming communities if game is liked or not, even steam reviews are just suggestions. The Marathon edgy style looks actually good, and pvp extraction shooter sounds fresh take on genre that is not my favorite itself.Ny friends don't play it and I don't play with randos, tho

I played Destiny since beta, all the way to D2's latest expansion, and I am just real sick of the hamster wheel. Plus Bungie deleting a lot of the content I paid for still hurts, I can't go back and replay a lot of missions with friends who might've been interested in giving D2 a try.

As far I can tell from unbiased extraction shooters reviewers is a pretty good game, girls in comics don't have to play if not interested but the guy in comic doesn't exist, make more sense if it was Highguard or something similar since there was actual shills.

The issue for me is that Marathon as a property with or without their current approach (in fact, probably least worst option Bungie picked).
- Hard to stand out in Boomer Shooter genre.
- Avant-Garde storyline with closure.
Though part of me wish they had Nightdive remaster.

To be fair, i feel like the "stolen assets" bit got a bit more negative press than it deserved. It was fairly clearly a dev adds references to reference board -> leaves company -> someone who picks it up after tosses it into a texture atlas -> env artist slathers it over a bunch of levels mistake.

I suspect what you're posting here is as much a reaction to *that* as it is bad shilling. It feels like a lot of gamers spend more time rooting for some game to fail than they do actually playing games. We're turning into teen gossips, and it's fucking annoying.

I mean, you can say that all you want. But, saying this as someone who doesn't give a fuck about this game among others, I found it really fucking weird that people were actively rooting for Marathon (among others) to fail, enabled by YouTube grifters looking to make a buck off people's vibes.

addendum to my other comment: yes they have apparently removed the art from their assets to the artists satisfaction.

the only thing i remember about marathon is i'm pretty sure they were the ones who got caught swiping someone's art and using it for their assets without permission last year? i assume they probably removed the offending assets... though who knows with a AAA nowadays...

It's a travesty against the entire Marathon series to make it a slop-of-the-quarter extraction shooter. Durandal despised humans for this exact reason.

About one to few times a year, NerfNow posts a diss about a game that I have no clue about, which usually speaks enough about that game.

This is one of those times. Mara-what?

It is difficult to get people to try an extraction shooter. Not really the most popular genre of FPS. More so when you don't have a single player campaign. If it was F2P that would help the numbers a lot, but Bungie needs to make guarenteed money on each player because the 250 million dev budget.
