as someone who studied PR as part of my master's degree, I really got to say Nintendo PR department is either incompetent or management is too impulsive to listen to them when it matters.
If a less beloved company made PR moves this bad, it would tank.

They sure gathered enough hate from the NOT nice and kind to corporations and respecting of copyrights and very subservient to law people outside of Japan, for something of that kind to happen.
