And people still get mad and triggered whenever I point out the hypocrisy in dogpiling Companies like EA, Activision or Ubisoft while continously giving Nintendo a free pass... I guess the truth hurts, but that's nothing new to crazy people on the internet.

Well Scryer, heard the preorders already sold out.
Most users dont read eulas or mod their consoles so it will be a minor internet outrage when a few years from now people get locked out. Or the restriction gets bypassed entirely.

The issue isnt what their goal had been, its what the potential consequences might be. If Nintendo sees anything that their security protocols register as improper/invalid coding, even if in error, they can brick your console. And often the onus is on you to prove you didnt do it.

Here's hoping Nintendograd's decisions end up bringing it to its knees, if not destroying it outright in an unlikely but ideal scenario. I'm sure other people would be willing to more effectively use the rights to their IPs like Zelda, Metroid and Pokemon.

> First says that you agree not to join any Class Action Suits against Nintendo.

Is such a clause even legally valid?

@Samuel Mesa Haven't played it, but plenty familiar with the setting, and I'm familiar with the cyberpunk genre as a whole.

Problem is, we're getting the crappy corporate dystopia without the cool science fiction stuff to go with it

@Shadi Afifi You haven't played Cyberpuk 2077 have you?

That has been their long term goal. To prevent bad actors in all forms from having access to their hardware. The reason they came up with the Gold Standard for the NES was to prevent a second gaming collapse like we saw with Atari in the 80's.

War is Peace
Ignorance is Strength
Freedom is Slavery.

We got George Orwell's 1984, but instead of the governments using it to oppress people, it's the corporations shutting people down if they feel like it.

For context, Nintendo's new EULA is two parts. First says that you agree not to join any Class Action Suits against Nintendo. Second says that Nintendo reserves the right to "brick" (permanently revoke access) your console is the SUSPECT that you might be using a modded console or pirating games

This feels like the start of a multi-part strip.

I find Nintendo to be the type of company that absolutely resents their fanbase and treats everyone like rubbish. It's why I won't buy their overpriced, never on sale stuff (and their hardware being underpowered also makes the decision easier). A shame as their games look like fun.
