Blizzard Employees are mostly playing Guild Wars 2 and Borderlands 2 these days.

But yeah, they don't play as much as gamers anymore.

i cant wait for mists, i did play for 8k hours, thats nearly a full year nonstop gaming time (spread across since classic of course). wow is long from being dead, sure after the first months of patches and waiting for new stuff it can get a bit boring... but hey people will play it anyway :p

@Mein Herr: His point was that you implied having ogre in your name means they like WoW...

Ogres aren't even a major race...

@Legacy: The point was as fantasy fans I bet every single one of ya'll have enjoyed some Warcraft at some point, I don't know why you can't be happy people much younger than you are having the same experiences for the very first time <3
Legacy

Ogres are products of middle European fiction. They have been well used in various works since ~1600s, and more recently have become a staple of modern fantasy. As for Ogre Bushi, Bushi is a term for Samurai in terms of Bushido, and is probably a Legend of the 5 Rings reference. And now you know.

@RandomPerson: Sounds like your friend just has a self control problem. He just needs to take breaks and invest that money in other things like games and fan service. WoW will be there again it's not going ANYWHERE.

Funny thing about Torchlight 2 is that the Online Servers got hit hard since everyone was rushing to register their account to play online. A form of Error 37 if you will.

Thing is, people then noticed this strange option to play offline.

Google "operant conditioning", "sunk cost fallacy", etc. People rarely do things for smart reasons.

Basically, the problem is this - if you are paying a monthly fee, the developer's primary concern is to keep playing when what players really want is a really fun game. That can't work.

New Dev Thought Text: I've been working on this watered-down joke of an expansion for the last 12 months, and you expect me to actually but and play it? Fuck no, my Charr Mesmer is more important than playing WoW

Sad reality: Most developers are young mainly because young people is cheaper and can work hard fueled only by nachos and pepsi colas. So, when a developer end a long project then usually he quits and start working in other projects.

Blizzard devs hate world of warcraft.
They are actively trying to ruin it with every new patch and expansion, they just want it to fail so they can move on to something else.
But every time they try to make it worse people just keep liking it.
Poor guys. Addicts will never stop

I actively play WoW and will be leading a raiding guild to great victory when MoP lands, so I'm pretty biased - I like the game.

With that pretext, I just wanna say... the devs for GW2 play their own game all the time. You see them running around with ANet tags in-game, just doin' stuff.

Would you quit playing something you have spent over 200$ on?
I think not.
RandomPerson

@Mein Herr
Actually most people don't stop playing simply because they have already spent too much time on it.
I asked a friend why he kept on playing World of Warcraft after 6 years and he told me that he had spent too much money on it and quitting would be a monetary loss for him.

There is no single blizzard employee aside from the head honcho himself that knows the complete story of Mists of Pandaria, let alone has played it. Only 1 or 2 maybe 3 animators and FX guys would know what the end boss looks like, but not what the first monster looks like. I could go on but, charac

World of Warcraft is NOT a good thing. Yes, it might be entertaining to a certain degree, and you might spend hundreds or thousands of hours (and dollars) on it, but it isn't a good thing.
Crysalim

My friend works at Blizz, but only contributes to user interface code. When a game comes out he can play it, and it's totally new to him.

He doesn't really play long though, usually a couple weeks after launch. His biggest running joke is that he's a Starcraft freak and they put him on WoW.

Think a modern game, the launch day will be the hardest period for game developers: mega bugs, error 37, etc
They need having crew 24/24 (worldwide support). I don't think they can have a rest at that moment.
