@Black Dragon
All anniversary did was show us that 343i could slap a new coat of paint on the original halo and add in some Easter eggs. No meta-game giving you credits for completing levels in Halo, no new weapons or redone enemy types, just achievements and new paint.
Black Dragon

Honestly, the more I read about Halo 4 and from my experiences with Halo: Anniversary, I can honestly say that I think the franchise is in good hands with 343i (as long as Microsoft doesn't meddle with it too much.)

My only problem with this is I think Joe thinks BUNGIE is making this when it's 343 and not Bungie, Bungie is DONE with Halo

@Meowmix Halo 4 will be the first "Real" game 343i will make; they were formed shortly after Halo 3's release to take over after bungie made ODST and Reach.

@Oh Dear...

http://www.halopedian.com/Terminal/Halo_3

The reversed messages section lends credence to the idea that as of H3's making, Human = Forerunner was the idea. That is also a tidy solution to a lot of the covenant actions, and without it, there's no reason for their war of genocide.
Meowmix

I'm a bit worried about how good Halo 4 will be, cause I don't know what kind of games (besides the Halo remake) 343 Industries has made. And I don't know any famous programmers/developers in the company, although a few Bungie employees did transfer to 343 Industries.

It should be noted that when 343 was created, the entire non-programming section of Bungie involved with Halo pretty much abandoned ship and joined 343. I wonder why.

@Merlynn They already announced the new ending DLC would be free, for the idiots who whined and moaned that the original one required actual intelligence to figure out what was going on.

Jurassic Park. Crichton was pressured into a sequel so they could make another movie of it. Note how The Lost World is a sequel to the JP movie, not the book. Then they ignored chunks of the book for the movie anyway.

@Zacsi: Funny how every other franchise has fans or simply people who are interested in it, but people who like Mass Effect are "biodrones", apparently. I guess the word for people like you, "hater", remains the same no matter what though.
erthkwake

What I think is worse is the new Halo Combat Evolved, the remake of the first game. The first was already called Combat Evolved, so this will add to already existing confusion. And by already existing confusion, I mean Halo Custom Edition (which most people don't know). They are both called Halo CE.

It's a NEW trilogy. Called the Reclaimer Trilogy. Kinda like the starwars thing. Got the original trilogy and then the prequel trilogy.
Zacsi

Mark my words a Mass effect mmo is surely on the way.
Bioware will find way to bullshit it into the canon.
Biodrones will still buy it just as they did with ME3.
The cycle of shity games will always continue.

@Andrew
as opposed to the the entire call of duty franchise? At least halo changed the engine instead of just re-skinning.

Also bungie is giving up halo so they're not owned by microsoft anymore, that was the deal they made to help with financial trouble.
Phoenix Wright
about 12 years ago
Sequels are fine, as long as they are a logical continuity of the series planned by the creator and not a gross attempt to extract more money from a franchise, this problem always arises in video games and movies and not books, therefore your example is invalid
Phoenix Wright
about 12 years ago
@Tirnor OBJECTION! It was very good but not that initally succesful, also it is a book, which is much more controlled by it's creator than the editors and other marketing executives. Therefore it couldn't be passed off to another person just to make money
Jyake
about 12 years ago
@Frag-ile: What made the original Halo under Bungie so groundbreaking was that it was originally going to be for the Mac -- that's one of the sources of the nerdraeg. Bungie, basically one of the few Mac game dev houses, had been bought by the Lame Empire. =)

This delayed the game almost 2 years. Plenty of nerd rage was had and what seemed like a good PC shooter was turned into a slow paced, first generation console shooter which has spawned a great flood of FPS mediocrity since then.
Frag-ile
about 12 years ago
into a very interesting PC shooter. But then a short time before the game was to be launched Microsoft enters the scene, buys Bungie and puts the release on hold. Little while later we learn that Microsoft intends to make Halo an exclusive launchtitle for their new console, the Xbox.

@Manadar: Aww, how cute. Maybe you're not actually old enough to remember the story of behind the first Halo. See Bungie was a fairly successful indipendant studio that brought us great things like Myth, when they started working on Halo everyone was quite excited indeed and it seemed to be turning

@Galdon: \ >pioneered ideas like regenerating health bar Hint: That's a BAD THING. Regenerating health is one of the worst things to happen to gaming. The first is call of duty and "We want call of duties fanbase".

The trilogy did end with the third game, the trilogy made by Bungie. Now taking the reigns this is going to be a new trilogy I think. Lets hope it's not another star wars episodes 1-3.

@Halo-lover:

You didn't read the terminals in Halo 3, did you? Humans were never Forerunner. The Forerunner found the humans and brought them aboard the Ark, and found them the most worthy to be their successors. But yes, the whole "Lolhumangalacticempire" thing was stupid and ruined the point.

@An Onymous:

-Sigh- I wish I could say I disagree with pal, but you're right on the mark. So many good titles yet SE just like to butcher what once was a great title. So sad, indeed.
An Onymous
about 12 years ago
Or it could also be made by square enix; aside from final fantasy stuff I've yet to see them make official sequels to some of their not-so-know-yet-great title games (ex. Radiant historia, TWEWY).
P.S. This is my own opinion, feel free to disagree/agree.
Galdon
about 12 years ago
Andrew hall: Halo isn't generic, it can't be, as it pioneered ideas like regenerating health bar and had some rather unique weapons.

The problem is, they have literally gone NOWHERE as far as innovation goes since then, so its not generic, its stagnating.

@Andrew Hall
The irony is Goldeneye, and by extension Perfect Dark, are overrated as well. Having your gun float around the screen is a horrible experience and I cringe every time I see it happen. I won't say Halo is perfect but at least mention Doom, Quake & Unreal when you talk about good design.
Andrew Hall
about 12 years ago
Is it okay that I have always found Halo the most generic fucking piece of shit shooter out there, at least relative to how famous it is? I want to beat its fans over the head with a copy of GoldenEye and go "You fucks need to learn to care about good shooter design."

"they will pass it to a not-so-good team to butcher it and sell the pieces."

Command & Conquer 4, anyone ?

... Allright C&C4's problem was no budget, no time, no team... but the butchering was so thorough it still applies ;)

Well at least MC finished the fight what with the Flood and the Halos being taken care of while the Covenant made peace.
But now MC had to go and pick a new fight (like Mass Effect will).

May MC be shoving the butts of assault rifles into alien's faces for many more years to come.
MiniWill
about 12 years ago
There is one flaw in your description, and that is: Bungie isn't making halo 4 and has nothing to do with it other than licensing the title.

343 is developing this game completely from scratch in terms of modelling with a massive polygon and graphical texture update.

And yes it's, Master Chief
AEIOU

I really enjoyed Halos1-3, Reach, and ODST. However, Master Chief's story ended in Halo 3. Furthermore, I *HATE* the Forerunner Ret-con. Humans are Forerunner. THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT OF HALO 3!
Gupy
about 12 years ago
Well...To be Fair it isn't Bungie making Halo 4. You Finished their fight. Halo 4 is being made by 343i, a new Microsoft (they've only been around since 2009) based team which was created when they kept the Copyright for the franchise when Bungie broke free after Halo 3.

@Bindal - Aye, that seemed rather obvious, even to someone who doesn't really care for Halo like myself. It seemed really obvious from the teaser trailer that with the new Arc, came new enemies. It really makes sense, too. Trilogies tend to be the go-to arc length for stories.
Bindal
about 12 years ago
Well, they DID keep their promise of "finishing the fight" and "ending the trilogy" as Halo 4 (to 6) is going to tell a new story with a new fight (probably against a new enemy)

Um, actually, they announced the new trilogy back at E3, you know. The first Trilogy was the Flood Arc. This would be a new arc in the story.

Logic. It does a mind good.

hey who needs a baseball bat to help beat this dead horse of a general fps game, seriously let it die already another halo game is about as stupid as Microsoft's announcement at E3 that they were gonna try and make the 360 last another five years before they make their next gen console

And the series life goes like this. Team makes popular game,team stops caring,quality slides,people lose interst,given to new team who either finish destroying the series or breathe new life into it. The end.

Well,they're going to do the same thing with Mass Effect it seems like. After they sell the "ending" DLC of course. Look for Mass Effect 4 at Christmas 2012. But yeah,the ending gave away this wasn't the end of Master Chief.
