Actually, let me make it clearer - from what I head, he had his free weekend, and in order to do that, you have to download the alpha - but there's no way of automatically deleting it or preventing you from playing offline.

I can't test this myself though.

Trying to build with gold/diamond/redstone is another challenge it's self. Developing a strategy to safely get large amounts of ore from deep in the earth to the top is quite interesting.
