i wasn't really enchanted enough by pokemon to get the obsession, though i did enjoy playing through a few of the entries(think i only played the main games of gens 1-3, didn't have the handheld of 4-7, didn't have an interest in 8 or 9's main as they seemed to have nerfed the difficulty alot)
Pokemon came out when I was in high school. It was mainly Pokemon and MMPR my brothers had playing in the other room while I was doing home work.
Main reason for me to even know any thing about it today, is because of my Waifu's interest in it.
You touch on an interesting subject here: The fact that something is not to your actual liking, doesn't mean we can't be glad that other people do enjoy it. It also reminds me of a comic you did a few years back, where a kid is nuts about 1st gen pokemon, but 15 years later she is grown up.

I like Pokemon but i dont like what the Pokemon Company, Gamefreak and Nintendo made it into. It lost its soul around the 6th generation. The highest grossing Entertainment Franchise on the Planet by a wide margin (its almost twice as big as the MIKEY MOUSE) but they cut on every corner possible.
