A big reason Simmers like tiny homes is that the pathing in Sims 4 gets frustrating in mansions. It's very common for a Sim to make food, take it to one end of the house to eat, and then the other end of the house to wash the dish in a bathroom sink. Hence tiny homes with limited paths and options.
