You should try using dropbox to store your work. I store all my illustrations in the drop box folder in my hard drive, and it syncs with cloud and back up instantly. It works just like any other folder on your hard drive and one account can be used on multiple computers.

If it helps, most copies of windows 7 (I think except the basic edition) allow you to download "Windows XP Mode", basically an XP VM that will obviously run almost all old programs.
