Portable consoles also exist.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is seriously well-done. The content is little worse than the old FF games, the Meta is astonishingly deep and you have little reason for microtransactions since you get so much currency just through normal play. I also play Fate/GO, but FF BE is way better.

But joe there are emulators for phones, PSP, gameboy advance even PS1&2!

it's not gaming on mobile that's sucks, it's the GAMES themselves, they're horrible.
hell there used to be better games in the Nokia days
remember Ancient Empires? it's basically advance wars with swords

Try mobile ports of open-source games.
Battle for Wesnoth, for example, is a nice TBS game with loads of single-player experience and good mods, free and fully playable on smartphones.

@Daniel Galarza: If it's a Hearthstone "killer", then why haven't I heard of it? Checkmate, Atheists.

Jo, I'd highly recommend looking at A Dark Room if you haven't already. It's a fantastic mobile game.

I want more of here third version, can we add her to the girls?

There are some damn nice mobile games, such as Eternal, a total Hearthstone killer. Also, board game devs have been digitizing their board games as of late, such as the amazing Galaxy Trucker.

Fate Grand/Order

That's hell you're walking into. But it's a ridiculously addicting one.

GPD XD is your friend.
Or a second handed PSP.

A good rule of thumb: if you have to pay upfront for a mobile game, it has a much better chance of being good. It's not guaranteed, but it IS much less of a crapshoot.

Punchquest is great if you want a shallow experience.
Sorcery is great if you want a deep one, I mean really deep.

Eh, there are good mobile games that don't go full grind-fest. Cut The Rope, Monument Valley, Device6, 80 Days, the Square Enix Go games, The Room Trilogy, as you mentioned, Plague Inc. I can go on.

@Don Koopa: There are some good mobile games but they have to compete with hordes of "free" games.

@Nos Rin: Or, you know, she's short.

Regardless the 1st panel has a certain appeal.

@Nos Rin obviously because cute & moe > sexy
What puzzles me is how no company on the mobile gaming market even tries to make a game that might be as good as a title for the Nintendo 3DS despite mobile phones actually having more raw power for graphics than handhelds...

@Xenozillex: no she's an adult and the middle one is a teenager.
WTF Jo, why do you think we'd go for a 16-18 year old girl over a smoking hot mature lady who probably has tons of experience? Shame on you.

And all "MMO"s are all the same. Pick between 3 classes: Warrior guy, mage girl, swordman guy (the game Seal at least allows you to pick gender). Start at max level and kick one monster's ass. Goes back to level 1. Click on the "walk to" button. Get new levels/skills/pets/item upgrade. Fight on auto
