REAL diplomatic victory is achieved by buying all the city states with infinite money.

Forgot which Civ was it(was either 3 or 4) where I tried something similar like this but all of the other Civs suddenly decided that I was a giant jerk for wiping out that last opponent and didn't want to vote for me anymore. Oh well, just had to "convince" them the hard way. :p

This is basically how I'd win at Alpha Centauri (wonderful game, you should try it, better than Civ).

Gunboat diplomacy really helps with this.

Civ V is the only one I've ever played. I'm pretty sure in that one, diplomatic victory is more of an economic victory, as there's no possible way to get another country to vote for you, only city-states.

It's more a question of ability to negotiate for that vote, and in most games WAR - is only working and accessible diplomatic option.

If I can't get a diplomatic victory and have to crush one nation then I may as well just crush all of them because crushing nations in Civilization is like Pringles - once you pop, you can't stop.

That's pretty much how diplomacy works in real life.
Also I want more civ comics they are the best.

nah, to win a diplomatic victory you just need enough money to buy every city-state

now to win a cultural victory when some other civ as much as though to do the same on the other hand...

I do this all the time, it works in civilization and Master of Orion 2. Although in civilization I usually just don't vote and kill everyone anyways.
