And then my state added a sales tax for all goods purchased online, including Steam games.
The taxes flow.

Seriously, ONLY 25% tax. I have to pay a 23% tax on top of an 18% tax ON TOP of a flat tax that is roughly 33% of my earnings and some additional government fees for every commision i take. It all adds up to nearly 70% lost in taxes. Some of us would kill for taxes this low.
Sorry, had to vent.

@Mattia Bulgarelli that is only one of the many taxes. http://thebrazilbusiness.com/article/the-16-most-common-brazilian-taxes

@Oliver König
25% is not the total of taxes Brazilians pay, also it is a lot considering how much we get in retun. A farmer complained to the city hall about the terrible conditions of the road and the replyed asking him to buy the materials so they can fix the road.

27.5% Taxes isn't that much compared to some countries... plus in Germany the tax laws are absurdly complicated as well and you need to pay things besides taxes. Germany has some level of social security left at least, though that is trending downwards.

27,5%?! It's a highway robbery!

@Preaplanes
At least in Denmark (and the nordic countries in general), the tax means you get something out of it, like healthcare, social welfare, education. I know it's a more serious problem other places, with more corruption.

Nothing is certain except death, taxes, and Steam sales.

I survived the sales too...
...so I could buy Fallout 4, Tekken 7, Rainbow Six Siege, Mad Max and Hitman.
Actually just Fallout, I'm not that rich.

@xkcd_386: That's how bad corruption is here o Brazil. XD

taxes are like protection money, both go towards ill-purposes (more taxes,corrupt politics, greedy police that does nothing but sit on their ass all day)

both are ways of extorting more money or else you get hurt

and both serve as a fine example that humans will never be free

ohmygawd BOOBIES TURNED INTO TAXEEEEES!!!!

Yeah, we gotta pay the corruption tax...

Yup, Jo, Brazil's taxes affect games also. A LOT. ;_;
And, besides income tax (27,5% really sucks x_x), I guess Jo is maybe also referring to IPVA (Vehicle ownership tax) and IPTU (urban territory ownership tax), since Brazilians has to pay it every middle of the year. And it's salty.

Jo, live in Australia and then we talk. (unless you do)

@Dorian Nest Valgav: Patreon stuff is taxed, yes. You can't escape...

In Brazil, we pay in a year, the equivalent of five months salary in product taxes and services, and there is the income tax on the gains. My purchases on Steam this year were lower.

@Debowy_Mocny: Damn. I understand the need for taxes since so much of what we take for granted wouldn't exist without them, but I always thought anything above 50% of your income was excessive, even for the richest people.

@Anders Kjeldgaard Nielsen: They never do. Seriously, the most incompetent entities on the planet are governments. All they do for roads and hospitals is hire private companies and reduce competition (which increases prices) anyway.
almost 9 years ago
It wouldn't be so bad if the government would stick to what it's needed for: police/fire, courts, and defense.

What about tax returns in Brazil? Can't you hire some expert on filling out the declaration?
In Germany you can return taxes if you have debts to pay, traveling to work or having a dedicated work room at home, also saving receipts for tools, helps too.
almost 9 years ago
yeah guys... Brazil's public services are crap... the are barely any return at all from taxes.
almost 9 years ago
Don't look at taxes like such a bad thing, it's good to pay taxes, as long they go to improve things. The main misunderstanding about taxes, is that it's bad and no good for you. The roads, hospitals, firebrigade and so on, makes sure everyone can use it.

Oh boy. Be happy yo are not in Poland. You will pay more than 3/4 of that what you earn
almost 9 years ago
cont: ... a variety of local taxes and a bunch of social security stuff that tends to lose their value faster than a half-penny dropped in a bottomless pit, and you can end up with absurd situations, like only getting 50% of your earnings at payday.
almost 9 years ago
I'm kinda ignorant, what taxes are you paying?! You live on donations if I'm not mistaken, technically you're unemployed no? AM I missing something? O.O
almost 9 years ago
Be glad your country has such low tax rates then. Here you'd be losing about 35%.

Too bad you're not in the US. I could probably find you a way to reduce the amount of tax you owe, but I don't know Hueland tax laws.
