OR... Jo started making the Engie game and realized he'd be drawing her 1,000 times a day as part of the game design and production process, and wanted to make NerfNow a place where he could take a break from that and draw things that aren't Engie.

...and that narrative would double as a parody of contemporary gaming news and culture.

Jo derived them from distinct subsets of his personality and designed them as representations of various gaming demographics. This way, the comic would form a (somewhat) continuous narrative about the relationship between these characters...

Engie started feeling kind of redundant once TentaJo became a regular character. Jo probably got tired of writing the comic as one long dialogue with himself, and created the four girls to change things up.

We will never forget you Engie! Even if Jo does, you'll always be the real star of the comic to us!
