(I'm the NN dev) The main reason for blocking anonymous comments is spam. We were getting around 10 spam comments each _second_, and growing. This was a hard decision. I'm a staunch defender of free speech, including the price we need to pay for it, but things were getting out of hand.

Interestingly, Valva said they'd only allow items that don't interrupt the gameplay by making heroes harder to identify. Somehow I don't think a huge hat will fit in that category

I doubt it's because of the "firsts". Plus I think they added a profanity filter. Might have written a "doubt Jo gives a f-" somewhere and the f- didn't pass.

Every F2P game is destined to go down this path it's best just to accept it. It's way better than the alternative of selling power to players. If you don't like it you could (probably) just install a mod that disables cosmetics on your end of the game.

Honestly I think DoTA could use a level of silliness with how serious you have to be when playing. When I play games like DoTA I'm nearly sweating because if I make a mistake, it can ruin the game for everyone else that practiced hard to be able to play well.
