Pokeopia was a Dragon Quest Builders Rip off.

I am not sure why anyone thinks Palworld is any competition to Pokemon. It's... Literally not even the same game genre (it shares genre with ARK not Pokemon despite aesthetics). The only thing it shares with pokemon is aesthetics.

It's mediocre survival slop #9001 noone would care about if it wasn't for the clear contempt they have for what used as inspiration anyway. Not a Pokemon fan, the games are still abysmal, it's just sad to see that the bar for competition is on the same level of low.

Game only got popular because people hate pokemon so much they will worship anything that even remotely challenges it, just to stick it to them, even if the game is just as terrible. People were already saying this will be "the end of Pokemon" when the first trailer dropped.

It's obviously not killing Pokemon, the biggest IP the world.
But if people even just THINK it is a competitor it means Pokemon should step it up and do better. They're no longer impossible to even challenge, even if they're still winning, and if they can be challenged they can eventually lose.

And, for us, Brazilians, the Pal term is the base of a lot of dirty jokes and innuendo.

Catchin Pals, small Pal Soul, Pal Fluid, a male cow that give milk, trap to ncatch small pal, etc, etc, etc. Just change Pal for P****.

Many people trying do defend Pokémon. Astonished. I'm a Pokémon fan, too. But not fanatic.

Yes, Palworld is a group of mediocre mechanics together in a game. But it's funny. It's immersive. You can explore. You have Pals. A mix of TotK, Ark and Pokémon. But is good. And we need good games.

It's quaint how people compare Pokemon with Palworld because they have gladiator monster collection. I also like comparing Contra and Halo because they have elite warrior with a gun versus alien horde.

If Palworld was an anything killer, it'd be an Ark (Survival Evolved/Ascended) killer, as like ASE/ASA, it's an open-world survival game where you're taming and/or disposing of the native animals to help you survive and thrive. Dragon Quest had more to fear than Nintendo, honestly, XD

Yeah, I tried palworld when it first came out, but it was a mile wide and an inch deep, and the combat was super mediocre. Also, the visual designs of the pals themselves suck, and the "lore" reads like it's AI-generated. It's a lot of things, but a "pokemon killer" it is not.

I always describe Palworld as "Ark for kids", not as a pokemon game. Then Game Freak made Pokopia, which is their own take on the survival genre. Not a ripoff of Palworld, but close enough that you can see why Game Freak would consider Palworld competition.

I vaguely remember trying a pokemon game (can't remember which) about a decade ago, but I bounced off pretty quick. I just found the battles pretty dull, I don't usually mind JRPGs, but controlling only one unit at a time and being limited to only 4 abilities just felt overly restrictive.

I prefer a classic turn combat for Pokemon. In fact I dislike Pokémon AZ because try to go for real combat.

Idon't agree with the combat part. Palword and Pokémon are 2 complete different games. Palword is a survival game almost the same to Ark games changing Pals instead Dinosaur. Pokémon is a JRPG, and the combat is strategic one with hundreds of skills, ,passive ability with competitive tournament.

To be fair, every single company that works on a Pokémon or Pokémon-like game does a better job than Gamefreak. Pokémon Stadium, Colosseum, Pokopia, the Mystery Dungeon games...
Making games is hard, sure, but Gamefreaks put hilariously low efforts into these compared to how much dough the make

I feel like the closest we've gotten is Legend's ZA, but were still a long way's off of having the perfect pokemon game out there.

The world just doesn't feel alive enough to warrant me feeling like the open world was worth it. And I'm not a fan of giving the player a combat system when you have creatures who can do the fighting for you.

I don't feel like palworld really has the concept of a great pokemon game down yet. Neither does gamefreak for that matter, but that's not surprising at this point.

I've always been amazed by the devotion many people have for Pokémon and its franchise...it reminds me a lot of a football fan with their team.

If I were the CEO of a company, I'd be envious of the loyalty people have for this IP.
