I dunno about that...after Odyssey, I get the feeling that Peach is kind of her own woman, at least when she's not kidnapped.

Nintendo spent all this time building up to the current love triangle between Peach, Mario and Bowser. They couldn't have Mario just end up with either of the other two Princesses he canonically rescued or Mayor Pauleen who he use to date. Nope. Too invested. How about a toad?
