Nah, it's just payment for advertisement. Is like "our main sponsor is Sosa-Sola, Sosa-Sola is the best thing you can drink after dinner!". Or generic advertisement on TV ("Our washing powder is better then others"). They sponsoring you, you're telling good thing about their merchandise.

The part that is Illegal, at least in the United States where the laws apply, is that deal was required to be kept secret. The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has ruled that you have to disclose this kind of arrangement. If you're going to sell out ya gotta tell people ya sold out.

Not big surprise. companies have done that for some time, and will probably keep doing it. always have yer doubts when you read a 'professional' review for a new console or game; sometimes it's best to see the fans reactions, instead.
