What people are saying about "Obsolete"

err... owning a pet is a lot more expensive unless you live in a mudhut of a country and stole your dog from your neighbour and then let your dog die from a cold 'cause you can't afford a vet or there's no vet in the village?!?!?
Chaore

Critter games aren't bad for one reason, some people can't just go and get a dog. Allergy, Parents, Apartment bans, and probably a hell of a lot of other issues can make a real dog desirable, but not obtainable. They just aren't all used for that reason.

Frankly, having a pet really IS that much work. Not to mention expensive. Dog food seriously costs more than my food!
I would still prefer being outside if possible though. If that is ever an option, that is.

@Mac: Never taken your pet to the vet before? Let us know how much that surgery costs.
Hint: more than and Xbox360!
Mad H

Because playing some entertaining games for an hour or few makes us terrible people for wanting to relax and enjoy ourselves. I have never liked the "go outside and PLAY pasty lardbutts! >:O" argument, since it always assumes gaming is your only hobby. What a lovely unmatching stereotype.

@John Doe
Can't afford upkeep of an animal, but can afford overpriced 360 games on top of internet and Xbox LIVE bills? Bullshit. If you can afford all that crap, you can afford a dog and dogfood.

Hey man, real sunbathing can give you melanoma...
Consequences? Also real pets poop.

@Bo: Indeed. Mian Madres is hooked.. possibly obsessed with the facebook games.
Also, anyone else think that looks like Samus?
Bo

There is no such thing as a casual gamer. People who play Farmville and crap like are totally obsessed. They log in huge amounts of time in those kinda games. Just because the game is popular and easily accessible does not make it casual. Casual gamers don't exist they're just a myth.

I'm sure some people can't wait to take that virtual sunbath. Wait, don't we already have something like that ? It's called a Tanning Bed/Booth.

This kind of comic makes it hurt more when your own dog has died. I've been one to never get into tamagotchie and nintendogs because I had a real dog. You can't beat the real thing no matter how hard you try to make it look nice.
StarPilot

@Kishgal: It began even before Nintendogs. iirc the "Catz" and "Dogz" games started in the mid-90s on pc.

I can see Kinect superman game where it feels like you can bend steal and crush heads with little effort.
wait is that the same tree rosalina mother is buried? @Cap'n Schecky that's what the ps3 Move controller is for.

Kinect seem to be good with dance/exercise/martial arts training. I would be happy to see it explore interactions with more convincing AI, in simulation or strategy.
Other than that, I don't know what it is good for. It might actually be something revolutionary, but it wasn't explored enough.
Alex
@Frank West Those aren't "games" if you by the "entertainment products" definition. Those are more like interactive exercise tools. I don't think Innergy was a bad idea, it just isn't intended to people who want to shoot aliens in the face... unless they also want breath/anti-stress training.
Alex

@Vysard That Kinectimals tiger doesn't seem wild at all. It acts like a (particularly stupid) pet, it is ugly and creepy.
If that's the result of the project Milo, it makes me very sad. It would be very cool to be able to actually comunicate with a virtual character.
ColdCedric

That's why this Kinect is a gamble. If succeeded, it always fails on something

Vysard

The Kinetic animal game is supposed to be training wild animals, like large, predatory cats. That's a little harder to do than raise a normal feline or a canine for that matter. Also, it could be for people with allergies, but love animals.

Thats not funny thats how my dog killed himself (except with Nintendogs)
Nolan Nymous

As already mentioned, the upkeep of an animal is sometimes too much. On the other hand, maybe it's for people that are not responsible enough to have a dog, even if they can afford one. At least this way they get a pet that goes away when the power gets turned off.
StarPilot

@Dr. Light: I see what you did there.
Also, BONK! is fulla radiaton, which we know is great for giving people superpowers. So go outside and absorb some good ol' sun so you can get more superpowers!

@Fluffy-Neko-San: Yes "staying inside for long periods of time" and "playing video games" may not be synonymous all the time, but even 15-30 minute intervals are periods of time spent not enjoying summer-ish activities.

Especially considering the type of video games that nerfnow likes to cover, I think my original statement still stands.

This reminds me of one "making of..." video for the anime, Spirited Away. The director, Hayao Miyazaki, wanted his staff to draw a certain scene with a sick dragon "behaving like when you feed a dog a pill". NONE of his staff had ever seen a real dog.

Some people live in apartments that don't allow pets, and that kind of situation. Everyone has different situations. That said, a lot of 'casual' games do seem petty banal to me, but then I'm not the target audience.
But it's not like I really play much of the major games either. almost 3 years ago
@Irony: the REAL irony is that "staying inside for long periods of time" and "playing video games" aren't the same thing
almost 3 years ago
it's not that stepping out side is too much work, it's just that A) too much sun exposure is unsafe ("too much" is subjective somehow and B) too much sun exposure in the wrong way causes uneven skin tones which really tick some people off

It's probably more about the cost of having a pet than the work involved, though dogs can take a lot of your time, *every day*.

actually that might be a good thing, there's dung all over the place, on the pavement, on the grass, at the bus stop, damn if those craptastic dogs become obsolete, get eliminated, and stop shitting all over the area i'll be happy.

Maybe it's for people who can't afford the upkeep of an animal? Some people are having trouble getting through the day on whatever they make, let alone carrying another adorable mouth to feed.
