@Hyperstar96: just trying to no mistake "Super Mario RPG" with any RPG game with Super Mario, as he has several RPG games, even if only the Snes one uses that whole name.

Plus the Princess has saved Mario once.

If Power Star represents a Super Mario 64-style adventure (This includes Sunshine and Galaxy), then what does landing on Princess represent? Original-style game? Or something that shouldn't be mentioned in mixed company?

Just as Jimmy Buffet said there is a woman to blame, I blame Princess Peach for all of this; she is clearly the worst woman in video games and this is Mario and Bowser's only real way to live with her:

Well, I like to think the party games and stuff is all sort of "Out of Character", and that they're still rivals.

@Xenosphobatic: I guess, but Square had nothing to do with Paper Mario (which is why the name was changed to Paper Mario to begin with). Also Luigi wasn't in SMRPG except for the credits, so there's no need to call it SMBRPG.

Ah yes! The good ol' Super Mario rpg for the snes... the memories and nostalgia are just killing me! Those were good times, indeed.

@Hyperstar96: Technically the Paper Mario series is considered a continuation of the SMBRPG genre.

@RoderickBR: What other "Super Mario RPG" is there? No need to point out that it's "the old one for SNES" when no other one exists.

Eh, in Super Mario RPG (the old one for SNes, not the GBA/DS new ones) they show from start that Bowser pretty much is single-minded and don't know other way to gain political power (and land) than kidnaping a princess. Everyone go "what, Bowser got Peach again?! Ok, go there and bring her back."

It's a fetish game they play. Bowser likes to villainously kidnap girls, Peach likes being kidnapped and saved(after some villainous sexual abuse), Mario likes to save the girl. They're all just a very compatible threesome.

Didn't Mario Party 2 pretty much state out loud that it was all just an act?

It started as a fight to save the princess... then rivalry over contests. In S. Princess Peach, Bowser had Mario entirely at his mercy, and what does he do? Cage him up in his Summer home. I be finkin' that Brokeback Mountain: Mushroom Kingdom ain't too far off.

How I see it, Bowser and Mario are rivals, but they really don't care how they compete. So sometimes Bowser makes a real attempt at getting something done, otherwise they just have fun with their competitions, thus all the sports and karting.

Or even simpler, Nintendo Logic!

I'm starting to think that those two only fight to re-enact the first game, but constant head-bonks have made them forget exactly how it goes.

Then again, we could just say that it is a video game, and has no true significance beyond a convenient plot device and character choice.
