So Makarov busts into a *major modern* airport and lays the blame on an American body they leave there.

Actually, Shepherd was in the first one, but only his voice, and you only know his name if you have subtitles on.
Noodles

Shepard isn't going from ally, to betrayer, to double betrayer. He is directly going to double betrayer. In the moment he betrays you at the safehouse, he is also betraying Price and Soap AND Makarov's men at the boneyard.

@Ishbane No, the comprehensibility of a story is legitimate criticism too. MW1 certainly could have made their story line easier to follow without dumbing the whole thing down. Honestly, the entire story pretty much depends on the intermission dialogues which you may or may not catch.
BEES

Actually, I believe the setup is that Shepherd planned to reveal that the US secret service knew of the airport plot and even had an sleeper agent within the terrorist group, but did not take any action to prevent it on suspiction that the same group would later attempt something similar in the US.

No, Shepard is in no way allied with Makarov. I'm sick of seeing this everywhere. Shepard did not want Allen to die, he had no idea Makarov was going to do that. It sure as hell worked to his advantage, but war would have happened eventually, due to MW1, and Shepard sending his Task Force.
Nuckel

MW2 on hardest level is torture. You die a lot without enemies actually having you in sight.
And in the german version, if you shoot the civilians at the airport, the game is over. Nuttyness everywhere.

@pong: Closer to life than you thought. Quoth a friend of mine who was in the army: "If your CO says to hang a left right now, you hang a left right fucking now. Even if you hit a tree, rock, whatever. Your CO asks why you did it? 'Because you told me to, sir.' No questions asked."

And yet people still bitch about the story sucking when they're simply too narrow-minded to grasp it.

You know, lots of warriors along the history (and soldiers since long) have been wearing and learned to use daggers/knifes for any eventuality, like cuting things or desarmed. If the son is a warrior, the dagger its aceptable in context; the bad gemming/enchanting, makes him and idiot.

Some people say twists are essentiel when the story itself sucks. They might be right about it.

Actually Shepherd WAS in MW1, but he just never popped up.

Shepherd said this during the final:
"Five years ago, I lost 30,000 men in the blink of an eye, and the world just fuckin' watched."

Five years ago was MW1 and the nuke killed 30,000 men. http://callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Shepherd

My problem with Modern Warfare 2 was they went way over the top and just became stupid. Like blowing up the ISS for no reason, or Russia invading America with no one fucking noticing. If Russia even made it to the coast, they'd find every American citizen armed to the teeth wherever they went.

MW1 and 2 games were rather... outrageous, the only thing that i truly liked from both of them is the scene were your taking your last feeble breaths after a nuclear attack hits, its grity, depressing and is a fucking BREAK from the shooty shooty pin pulling throwy ducky action

Well, technically, soldiers aren't privy to such info outright or at all, so for it to happen sort of behind the scenes and all too quickly kinda gives a realistic vibe to it. Still, in a video game or movie perspective, yeah, it blows if some vital information are too obscure.

@gunkan What I learned from Ace Combat 5: You can be wing leader, but you will get shot down early but alive and well, and you'll met a hot Russian female officer that used to be your old flame... and still does. Meanwhile, your cute wingman will hook up with the new flight leader.

What I learned from MW2: On completing a mission int eh army, you have a 12% chance of being shot to death at the very end. So far in the AirForce, this has happened to me 0 times so I guess I choose wisely.

BUT, if he is a rouge, like he apears to be, and they ACTUALY THINK that he would tank, they should do humanity a favor and jump off a cliff with the rest of thier family in tow. Darwinian justice, ideots like that shouldnt be kept in the genepool.

PVP!?!?!?!?

On another note. Its like a movie, the way they designed COD:MW2's story. Too bad it wasn't continued.
Obby

About the MW2 story, Shepard kept going back to the nuke that wiped out the thousands of US troops back in MW1 as his reason for luring Makarov into screwing himself over.

That's probably the tie in, I'd imagine.

I don't care much for Call of Duty, but I believe that "blindly following orders" is the general job given to soldiers, and I guess the game's supposed to be based on that thought.
Drew

Well when you think about it, you're only ever playing random grunts. How much can any soldier affect events? Best you can do is follow orders whilst being badass...

About MW2... Agreed. Still you can't deny, how epic some moments are. Like, when the EMP took out Washington. Though I usually center my criticism on a good story, this game kept my jaw on the floor well enough.
