Maybe Samus CAN'T have babies of her own. I mean, she has been exposed to many dangerous things (Phazon ring any bells?) and had her genome tampered with at least twice (part Chozo, part Metroid), so having the hatchling suckle at her (realisticlly sized) breast is the closest thing she will get.
