Here is the thing, I don't think the whole 27k Legatus pack is a desperate gambit to grab more money from generous fans. Yeah, 27k is a lot but given how expensive Star Citizen ship is it's a drop in the bucket, specially since you can't offer this deal twice to the same whale.

The reason I think they put this deal is to generate internet buzz. Game media will run the article for free and for a little while Star Citizen will be on people's minds. I'm sure even the media knows that but news are news and this beats writing about the color of Mario socks or something.

I doubt even a single person will buy this pack thou. I'm sure some people CAN pay for it but it's hard to justify such expense when your game doesn't even have an official release date.
